The first specimen was lot 812 in Jean Elsen sale 141 (Brussels, June 2019), where it sold for €370 (about US$490 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), Cu 2 centimes, 1835. BRAEMT F. avec point. Listel large. Dupriez 133. Rare Petit manque de métal dans le O de ROI. Superbe à Fleur de Coin. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, copper two centimes of 1835, engraver's name with dot, large flan. Rare, planchet flaw on reverse. Extremely Fine - Uncirculated.)"
The second specimen was lot 815 in Jean Elsen sale 141 (Brussels, June 2019), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), Cu 2 centimes, 1835. BRAEMT F sans point. Surfrappé. T incomplet. La date entre deux étoiles. Très rare Coin de droit brisé. Fines griffes. Very rare, obverse die clashed, fine scratches, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"
This type was struck 1833-65 at the Brussels mint in numerous varieties; despite the enormous mintage, this date is scarce in nice condition. In 1835, the hubs were modified to make the rims narrow (KM 4.2). An 1835/3 overdate is reported.
Recorded mintage: 26,774,000.
Specification: 3.6 g, copper.
Catalog reference: KM 4.1, Bogaert 107B (first specimen), Bogaert 134C var (second specimen).
