Belgium 1834 2 centimes
This specimen was lot 810 in Jean Elsen sale 141 (Brussels, June 2019), where it sold for €280 (about US$371 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
" BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), Cu 2 centimes, 1834. BRAEMT F sans point. Rare. Superbe à Fleur de Coin. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, copper two centimes of 1834, engraver's name without dot. Rare, Extremely Fine - Uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1833-65 at the Brussels mint in numerous varieties; despite the enormous mintage, this date is scarce in nice condition. In 1835, the hubs were modified to make the rims narrow (KM 4.2). A medal alignment variety (KM 4.3) is also reported.
Recorded mintage: 3,268,000.
Specification: 3.6 g, copper.
Catalog reference: KM 4.1, Bogaert 107B.
