Bavaria 1779 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 3566 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €160 (about US$209 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BAYERN, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1623 KURFÜRSTENTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH: Karl Theodor, 1777-1799. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1779, München. Variante mit Rosette unter dem Kopf. Feine Tönung, vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Bavaria, Charles Theodore, 1777-99, half convention thaler of 1779, Munich mint, variety with a rosette under the bust. Fine toning, extremely fine.)"
This type, even tho it was struck 1778-81 and 1784-93, is scarcer than the preceding half thalers of Maximilian Joseph.
