Künker sale 335, lot 3393

This specimen was lot 3393 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €400 (about US$524 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BAYERN, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1623 KURFÜRSTENTUM, Maximilian I. 1598-1651. 1/2 Reichstaler 1622, München. R Kl. Randfehler, sehr schön +. (Germany, duchy of Bavaria, Maximilian I, 1598-1651, half thaler of 1622, Munich mint. Small rim nick, very fine or better.)"

In 1623, the duke received the electoral dignity heretofore held by his cousin, the count of the Palatinate. The reverse motto, "CLYPEVS OMNIBVS IN TE SPERANTIBVS", translates as, "The shield of everyone who hope in you".

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
