Bavaria (1621-23) 48 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 3402 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,440 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BAYERN, HERZOGTUM, SEIT 1623 KURFÜRSTENTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH: Maximilian I. 1598-1651. Kipper-48 Kreuzer (Zwölfbätzner) o. J. (1621-1623), München. R Zainende, vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Bavaria, Maximilian I, 1598-1651, undated kipper 48 kreuzer (12 batzen), Munich mint. Clipped, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1621-23 and is fairly scarce. It was probably made in substantial quantities but was melted down in the aftermath of the kipperzeit, or the inflation of 1621-23.
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
Specification: 10.5-13.5 g, silver, 35 mm diameter, this specimen 11.84 g.
