Baden 1902 2 mark

from the Stack's Bowers June 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71117

This specimen was lot 71117 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $100. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GERMANY. Baden. 2 Mark, 1902. Karlsruhe Mint. Friedrich I. NGC MS-65. Struck to commemorate the 50th year of reign, this Gem minor radiates with tremendous luster and features a nearly completely argent, blast white appearance." This commemorative was saved and is today quite a bit more available than the regular issue of 1902 (KM 272). It accompanied a similar five mark (Dav-934).

Recorded mintage: 375,018 + 5,368 of KM 269 (bust left) + 198,250 of (bust right).

Specification: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, reeded edge.
