Sincona sale 57, lot 2841

This specimen was lot 2841 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$179 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Empire | Sachsen-Meiningen, Herzogtum, Georg II. 1866-1914. 2 Mark 1902 D, München. Kurzer Bart. Vorzüglich. Leicht berieben. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Meiningen, George II, 1866-1914, two mark of 1902, Munich mint, short beard. Extremely fine, Slightly polished.)"

This scarce type was struck 1902-03. The long beard variety earns a substantial premium.

Recorded mintage: 20,000 (long and short beard varieties).

Specification: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen 11.08 g.
