This specimen was lot 738 in Jean Elsen sale 112 (Brussels, March 2012) where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Marie-Thérèse (1740-1780), AR demi-ducaton, 1750, Anvers. Droit : B. drapé et diad. à droite. Revers : Ecu couronné sur une croix de Bourgogne. Petit défaut du flan sur la tranche. Provient du trésor de Loppem et de notre vente 95, 15 mars 2008, 738. presque Superbe. (Duchy of Brabant, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, silver half ducaton of 1750, Antwerp mint. Obverse: draped, diademed bust with earring. Reverse: crowned arms with the cross of Burgundy behind. From our sale 95 (March 2008), lot 738. Small planchet flaw, about extremely fine.)"

This type was struck in 1749-54 during the reign of Maria Theresia. The demi-ducaton denomination was a holdover from Spanish rule in the seventeenth century and was replaced by the half kronenthaler in 1755. The Austrians lost Belgium to Revolutionary France in 1797. After the fall of Napoleon in 1815, Belgium passed to the king of the Netherlands.
