Austrian Netherlands 1750(l) liard
This specimen was lot 1333 in Jean Elsen sale 143 (Brussels, December 2019), where it sold for €550 (about US$718 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Maria Theresia (1740-1780), Cu oord, 1750, Brugge. Vz/ Bb. r. met parelkrans. Kz/ AD/ USUM/ BELGII/ AUSTR·. Fleur de Coin. (county of Flanders, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, copper ort of 1750, Bruges mint. Obverse: bust right; reverse: legend. Uncirculated.)"
This type was struck at Antwerp (hand mintmark) and Bruges (lion, shown here) 1749-52. It is not listed as expensive, so we don't know why this example realized so much. No more were struck until 1776.
Reported Mintage: 6,988,000, Bruges and Antwerp combined.
Specification: 3.75 g, copper, 22 mm diameter, this specimen 3,82 g.
