Austrian Netherlands 1750(l) 1/2 ducaton
This specimen was lot 1403 in Jean Elsen sale 160 (Brussels, November 2024), where it sold for €140 (about US$177 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Maria Theresia (1740-1780), AR halve dukaton, 1750, Brugge. Vz/ Bb. r. Kz/ Gekroond wapenschild op een Bourgondisch kruis. bijna Zeer Fraai. (county of Flanders, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, silver half ducaton of 1750, Bruges mint. about very fine.)"
This type was struck 1749-54 at Antwerp and Bruges (shown here). It was superseded by the half kronenthaler struck in the names of both Maria Theresia and emperor Francis of Lorraine.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date.
