Künker sale 294, lot 3438

This specimen was lot 3438 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €300 (about US$404 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"KAISERREICH ÖSTERREICH, Franz Josef I. 1848-1916. Dukat 1858, A, Wien. Feingold. GOLD. Fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Bernhard Terletzki. (empire of Austria, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916. ducat of 1858, Vienna mint. About extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1854-59 at five mints and is common. Gold ducats were struck throughout Franz Josef's long reign and come in many types. This date is known from Vienna (shown here), Kremnitz, Venice, Milan and Karlsburg (Fr-233).

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, 19.8 mm diameter, this specimen 3,44 g.
