This specimen was lot 20205 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $4,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "Franz Joseph I 2 Taler 1857A, Proof 64 Cameo PCGS, laurel tips point to KA, appealing magenta and gray patina. Struck to mark the opening of the Vienna to Trieste railway. Rare type with a total mintage of 1,644 and few have survived in this select quality." The SCWC reports two varieties, depending on where the tips of the emperor's wreath points in the obverse legend, but prices the varieties the same.

Recorded mintage: 1,644.

Specification: 37.03 g, 0.900 fine silver, 41 mm diameter, 1.07 troy oz ASW.
