This specimen was lot 29072 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $7,050. The catalog description[1] noted, "Franz Joseph I gold 4 Ducat 1856-A AU58 NGC, Vienna mint. An attractive, lightly circulated example of this earlier-date type with typically encountered surface marks, nicely defined features, and a considerable amount of reflectivity within the fields." This type is noted for 1852-59 from Vienna (mintmark "A") and Venice (mintmark "V", 1857 only). The module is as large as a thaler but the coin is very thin.
