Künker sale 293, lot 1659

This specimen was lot 1659 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €600 (about US$809 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"KAISERREICH ÖSTERREICH, Franz I. 1804-1835. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1806, A, Wien. RR Feine Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Francis I, 1804-35, half convention thaler of 1806, Vienna mint. Rare, fine patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1804-06 and is rather scarce. This is the last issue featuring Francis's title as Holy Roman Emperor, which title he surrendered in 1806. Half thalers were struck to this standard until 1851 then replaced by a smaller coin struck 1857-68.

Specification: 14.03 g, 0.833 fine silver, .375 troy oz ASW, 34 mm diameter.
