Austria 1809-C 1/2 thaler
The first specimen was lot 4441 in Sincona sale 34 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 525 CHF (about US$623 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"AUSTRIA. Franz II. (I.), 1792-1835 Halbtaler 1809. Prag. Selten. Vorzüglich. (Empire of Austria, Francis I, 1792-1835, half thaler of 1809, Prague mint. Rare, Extremely fine.)"
The second specimen was lot 1661 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €400 (about US$539 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"KAISERREICH ÖSTERREICH, Franz I. 1804-1835. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1809, C, Prag. RR Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Empire of Austria, Francis I, 1804-35, half convention thaler of 1809, Prague mint. Rare, fine patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1806-10 and is rather scarce. This is the only issue from Prague. Half thalers were struck to this standard until 1851 then replaced by a smaller coin struck 1857-68.
