Jean Elsen sale 126, lot 958

This specimen was lot 958 in Jean Elsen sale 126 (Brussels, September 2015), where it sold for €320 (about US$427 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"AUTRICHE, François Ier (1806-1835), AR Taler, 1807-A, Vienne. 1er type, au titre de Salzbourg et Wurzbourg. Rare Légère trace de bélière. (empire of Austria, Francis I (1806-35), silver taler of 1807, Vienna mint, first type with the titles of Würzburg and Salzburg. Rare, removed from jewelry.)"

This thaler was struck at Vienna 1806-09 and is the first type struck for Francis using his title of Austrian Emperor, which title he assumed in 1806.
