Künker Auction 441, lot 4913

This specimen was lot 4913 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €3,400 (about US$4,677 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"KAISERREICH ÖSTERREICH, Franz I., 1804-1835. Konv.-Taler 1808 A, Wien. Prachtexemplar. Hübsche Patina, fast Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung eines sächsischen Naturwissenschaftlers. (empire of Austria, Francis I, 1804-35, convention thaler of 1808, Vienna mint. Choice example, handsome patina, about uncirculated.)"

This thaler was struck at Vienna 1806-09 and is the first type struck for Francis using his title of Austrian Emperor, which title he assumed in 1806. Austria was knocked out of the Napoleonic Wars in 1806 and did not participate in the War of the Fourth Coalition (1806-07). She entered the War of the Fifth Coalition (1809) and was defeated again at Wagram.
