Stack's Bowers 2022 ANA sale, lot 35243

This specimen was lot 35243 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. 15 Kreuzer, 1807-A. Vienna Mint. Franz II. PCGS MS-63 Brown. One year type. Tied for the finest certified by PCGS." This type was struck at five mints (A, B, E, G, S) 1807 only. This issue is common. The convention thaler was 120 kreuzer, making this coin one-eighth of a thaler. In 1806, Francis dropped his title of Holy Roman Emperor and assumed the title of emperor of Austria.
