Künker sale 264, lot 3485
Sincona sale 97, lot 2009

The first specimen was lot 3485 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,227 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Josef II. 1765-1790. Dukat 1786, F, Hall. GOLD. Sehr attraktives Exemplar, vorzüglich. (Austria, Joseph II, 1765-90, ducat of 1786, Hall mint. Very attractive extremely fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 2009 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$798 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Joseph II. 1765-1790. Dukat 1786 E, Karlsburg. Vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, ducat of 1786, Karlsburg [sic] mint. Extremely Fine.)"

This type was minted at Hall and Prague 1781-86. It is not rare but obtains a slight premium over the bare head (Fr-439) used at other mints.

Reported Mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, the first specimen 3.49 g, the second specimen 3.47 g.
