Künker sale 352, lot 1638

This specimen was lot 1638 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,670 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Josef II. 1765-1790. 2 Dukaten 1786, B, Kremnitz. GOLD. Sehr schön. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, double ducat of 1786, Kremnitz mint. Very fine.)"

This type was struck 1783-90 at Vienna (mintmark A), Kremnitz in Hungary (mintmark B, shown here) and Karlsburg (mintmark E). Altho struck in Hungary, it uses an Austrian design. It is not rare.

Recorded mintage: 58,000.

Specification: 6.98 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 6.92 g.
