Hungary 1785 2 ducats Fr-195
This specimen was lot 3868 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,115 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Josef II. 1765-1790. 2 Dukaten 1785, Kremnitz. GOLD. Fassungsspuren, berieben, sehr schön. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, double ducat of 1785, Kremnitz mint. Tool marks, polished, very fine.)"
This type was struck 1781-87 and is counted as common for a double ducat. A similar single ducat (Fr-196) exists. The auctioneers listed it under Austria but it was made in Hungary and that is where we will file it.
Recorded mintage: 42,000.
Specification: 6.98 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 6.93 g.
