This specimen was lot 24125 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "Joseph II gold 2 Ducats 1786-E, Karlsburg mint, AU50 NGC. An overall pleasing example with several light die adjustment marks (as made) around 6 o'clock on the obverse." Like most double ducats, this type, listed for 1783-87, is scarce but slightly more common than prior types. Altho Friedberg lists this under Hungary, we have followed the SCWC and filed it under Austria.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 7 g, 0.986 fine gold, .221 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Her-14, Fr-200 (Hungary), KM 1876 (Austria).
