Sincona sale 38, lot 1819

This specimen was lot 1819 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$540 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Joseph II. 1765-1790 Dukat 1787 E. Karlsburg. Vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, ducat of 1787, Karlsburg mint. Extremely fine.)"

This type is listed for several mints from 1780-90 and is common. The Karlsburg mint was in Transylvania. Double ducats (Fr-200) also exist from this mint.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3.47 g.
