Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 23201

This specimen was lot 23201 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA. Taler, 1753. Hall Mint. Maria Theresia. PCGS EF-45 Gold Shield. Quite deeply toned, this crown does exhibit some scattered light scuffs as well as some adjustment marks on the reverse, but remains a great singular example. From the Naples Bay Collection." This type was struck 1746, 1749-54, 1760-65 to the reichs thaler standard while production of the convention thaler (28.06 g, Dav-1121) was becoming important. While it is not rare, it is quite a bit more expensive than other Maria Theresia thalers from that mint.
