Sincona sale 69, lot 1046

This specimen was lot 1046 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 3,400 CHF (about US$4,513 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HEILIGES ROMISCHES REICH. Ferdinand III. 1637-1657. Taler 1640, Wien. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. FDC mit feiner Patina. Scharf ausgeprägtes Prachtexemplar. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand III, 1637-57, thaler of 1640, Vienna mint. Rare in this condition, Uncirculated with beautiful patina, Extraordinary and sharp struck cabinet piece.)"

This type was struck 1640-45, towards the end of the Thirty Years War, and is fairly common.
