Anhalt-Dessau 1622 1/8 thaler
This specimen was lot 4102 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €650 (about US$853 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ANHALT-DESSAU, FÜRSTENTUM, Johann Casimir, 1619-1660. 1/8 Reichstaler 1622, auf den Tod seiner Stiefschwester Sophie Elisabeth (1589-1622), Gemahlin des Herzogs Georg Rudolf von Liegnitz. Von großer Seltenheit. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, sehr schön. (Anhalt-Dessau, John Casimir, 1619-60, one-eighth thaler of 1622, on the death of his stepsister Sophie Elisabeth (1589-1622), wife of duke Georg Rudolf von Liegnitz. Extremely rare, edge defects, very fine.)"
Joachim Ernst united all the splinters of Anhalt but died in 1586. His seven sons ruled Anhalt jointly until 1603, when the five surviving brothers partitioned it once again. The new principalities were Anhalt-Bernburg, Anhalt-Dessau, Anhalt-Kothen, Anhalt-Plötzkau and Anhalt-Zerbst. Anhalt-Dessau lasted the longest, surviving until 1918. This commemorative is not mentioned in the SCWC.
