Anhalt-Kothen 1650-HPK thaler Dav-6020
This specimen was lot 3354 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €4,200 (about US$5,496 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "ANHALT, ANHALT-KÖTHEN, FÜRSTENTUM, SEIT 1807 HERZOGTUM, Ludwig der Ältere, 1603-1650. Reichstaler 1650, Eisleben, auf seinen Tod. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtvolle Patina, vorzüglich + . (Germany, principality of Anhalt-Cothen, Louis the Elder, 1603-50. Thaler of 1650, Eisleben mint, on his death. Very rare, especially in this quality. Superior patina, extremely fine.)" This is a rare one year type. It was the first thaler issued by this state since 1625 and the last until 1665.
