The first specimen was lot 727 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "DURRANI: Shah Zaman, 1793-1801, AR rupee, Mashhad, AH1214, struck by the Afsharid ruler Nadir II, but in the name of his protector, Shah Zaman, VF, R." The second specimen was lot 2083 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[2] noted, "DURRANI: Shah Zaman, 1793-1801, AR rupee, Mashhad, AH1214, struck by the Afsharid ruler Nadir II, but in the name of his protector, Shah Zaman; lovely strike, lovely VF-EF, RR." The third specimen was lot 57 in Sincona sale 88 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$397 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[3] noted,

"IRAN, Hotak Dynasty, Zaman Shah, 1207-1216 AH (1793-1801). Rupi 1214 AH (1799), Mashhad Mint. Äusserst selten, Gutes sehr schön, Leicht gereinigt, Schrötlingsfehler am Rand; Extremely rare. Good very fine. Lightly cleaned. Flan flaw on edge. Purchased from M. Saffar, London, in 1999."

The fourth specimen was lot 2173 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $108. The catalog description[4] noted, "DURRANI: Shah Zaman, 1793-1801, AR rupee, Mashhad, AH1214, struck by the Afsharid ruler Nadir II, but in the name of his Durrani protector, Shah Zaman; nice strike, VF-XF." The Durranis or Saddozais established themselves in Afghanistan in the 1750's but had lost large chunks of their empire during the reign of Shah Zaman. This type is also known from Mashhad for AH 1212 and was struck at numerous mints.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a scarce mint.

Specification: 11.0-11.5 g, silver, the first specimen 11.36 g, the second specimen 11.47 g, the third specimen 11.43 g, the fourth specimen 11.45 g.
