Stephen Album sale 50, lot 463

This specimen was lot 463 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "DURRANI: Shah Zaman, 1793-1801, AR double rupee, Kabul, year 6, struck on the usual broad thick planchet for this type; one small test scratch; superb strike with full detail, XF-AU. A similar piece sold in our Auction 20, lot 702 (same obverse die)." While the regnal date "٦" is prominent on the reverse, the AH date (1212 or 1213) is not visible. These are known for years 5, 6 and 7. Shah Zaman was captured and blinded by his brother Mahmud Shah in 1801 but survived in exile until 1845.
