This specimen was lot 630 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "DURRANI: Mahmud Shah, in Herat, 1801-1829, AV mohur, Herat, AH1218//1218, bold strike, standard type, used at Herat from 1216 until 1239, very common for silver, but extremely rare for gold, EF, RRR. Herat mint gold for Mahmud Shah was unknown to R.B. Whitehead in 1934, but a few examples have surface[d] since then, at first an example dated AH1218 (the only date recorded by KM), more recently examples dated AH1216 and 1217. The mohur dated 1217 sold at our Auction 14, Lot 821, for $1500, and the examples dated 1216 and 1218 sold at Spink Auction 12027, Lots 599 & 600, for $1610 each." This type is listed by the SCWC under Shah Shuja al-Mulk (1803-08), for AH 1218 and 122x.
