Afghanistan AH 1220/3 rupee KM-368
This specimen was lot 2174 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "DURRANI: Shah Shuja', 1803-1809/2nd reign, AR rupee, Derajat, AH1220 year 3, nice strike, bold VF." This type was struck at Derajat for years 1 thru 6. In 1809, Shah Shujah was overthrown in battle and exiled. He was reinstalled in Kabul in 1839 by the British and the Sikhs and made himself unpopular with the gruesome vengeance he took upon his perceived enemies. He was ambushed and assassinated in 1842 by his godson. Derajat was a part of Baluchistan, now in Pakistan.
