Aargau 1808 5 batzen KM-10
This specimen was lot 3009 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$1,586 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Aargau, 5 Batzen 1808, Aarau. Variante mit zwei Lorbeerzweigen. Schräg geriffelter Rand. Selten. Gutes vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Leu Numismatik 84, Zürich, Oktober 2002, aus Los 1568. (Switzerland, canton of Aargau, five batzen of 1808, Aarau mint, variety with two laurel branches, obliquely reeded edge. Rare, Good extremely fine.)"
This five batzen was struck in 1807-08; the 1808 is common. Another five batzen exists with palm and laurel branches (KM 13.1). No coinage for Aargau exists prior to 1798, when it was admitted as a canton to the confederation.
