Aargau 1807 1/2 batzen
This specimen was lot 3007 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,454 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Aargau, Halbbatzen 1807, Aarau. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Gutes vorzüglich. Leichte Prägeschwäche. Exemplar der Auktion Lugdunum 22, Solothurn, Dezember 2022, Los 17. (Switzerland, canton of Aargau, half batzen of 1807, Aarau mint. Rare in this condition, Good extremely fine, Slightly weakly struck.)"
This half batzen or two kreuzer was struck 1807-09, 1811 and 1815. A variety exists with crude dies for 1807 (KM 8.2). No coinage for Aargau exists prior to 1798, when it was admitted as a canton to the confederation.
