Künker sale 423, lot 204

This specimen was lot 2896 in Sincona auction 51 (Osnabrück, October 2018), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$664 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH. Joseph II. 1765-1790. 1/2 Souverain d'or 1786 F, Hall. Vorzüglich-FDC [Extremely fine-uncirculated]."

This type is filed under the Austrian Netherlands, an area which is now Belgium and Luxembourg. Besides Hall, similar coins are known from Vienna and Brussels. The type was struck 1786-90 and previous souverains d'or date back to the reign of Maria Theresa.
