Künker sale 293, lot 1640

This specimen was lot 1640 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,213 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Josef II. 1765-1790. 1/2 Kronentaler 1786, Brüssel. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Leicht justiert, vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, half crown thaler of 1786, Brussels mint. Very scarce, especially in this quality. Light adjustment marks, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1786-90 at Brussels, Vienna and Kremnitz. It is much scarcer than the rather common kronenthaler (Dav-1284).

Recorded mintage: 61,000.

Specification: 14.72 g, 0.873 fine silver.
