This specimen was lot 168 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "1591. Felipe II. Madrid. C. 2 escudos. Obv.: Coat of arms between M and II/C. PHILIPP(VS!)D·G·HISPANIARVM. Rev.: *ET INDIARVM REX·1591. Ex-jewelry. Extremely rare, we have only had another example before. MBC [very fine]." This type was struck at Madrid 1591-92 along with a four escudos (Fr-159), Friedberg calls this a cob but the example shown here is a typical hammered coin.
