Anhalt-Zerbst 1676-CP 2/3 thaler KM-19.5
This specimen was lot 1293 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 325 CHF (about US$390 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"GERMANY, Anhalt-Zerbst, Herzogtum, Carl Wilhelm, 1667-1718. 2/3 Taler 1676, Zerbst. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. Leichte Prägeschwäche. (Germany, duchy of Anhalt-Zerbst, Charles William, 1667-1718, 2/3 thaler of 1676, Zerbst mint. Rare in this condition, Uncirculated, Magnificent condition, Slightly weakly struck.)"
Two varieties exist for 1676: KM 16.4 (misaligned date) and KM 16.5 (horizontal date, shown here). Thalers from seventeenth century Anhalt are very rare (we have only one on the Wiki, Dav-A6035) so collectors make do with this denomination, which was roughly equal to a gulden.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 16.40 g.
