SB125-31285r.jpg

This specimen was lot 31285 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. 2 Skilling, 1693. Copenhagen Mint. Christian V. NGC MS-65. One year type. An astounding Gem of the issue, this little jewel boasts and impressive strike with radiant white luster in the centers that gives way to light tone at the edges. Easily the finest graded, and with overall attributes that would be difficult to surpass." This rare type was struck 1693 only. The "·P·&·I·" on the reverse is not a mintmark but the king's motto, "PIETATE ET IVSTITIA". A very similar design was used for the copper half skilling (KM 421) of the same year. This coin was worth 1/48 of a speciedaler.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.913 g, 0.500 fine silver, 16 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-422; Sieg-10.
