Brabant 1617(t) 1/4 patagon
This specimen was lot 592 in Jean Elsen sale 141 (Brussels, June 2019), where it sold for €230 (about US$305 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRABANT, Duché, Albert et Isabelle (1598-1621), AR quart de patagon, 1617, Bois-le-Duc. D/ Croix de Bourgogne, sous une couronne, entre les monogrammes couronnés des archiducs, ornée du bijou de la Toison d'or. R/ Ecu couronné, entouré du collier de la Toison d'or. presque Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Albert and Isabelle, 1598-1621, silver quarter patagon of 1617, Bois-le-Duc mint; reverse: crowned Burgundian cross divides the monograms of the archdukes, adorned with the jewels of the Golden Fleece; reverse: crowned arms, Order of the Golden Fleece around. about Very Fine.)"
This type is listed from Brussels (undated), Antwerp (1616-17 and ND) and 's Hertogenbosch (1617-20 and ND). This mint is priced ten times the Antwerp and Brussels issues. The mintmark is a tree, shown above the crown on the obverse.
