This specimen was lot 1581 in Aureo y Calicó sale 423 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 321 € (about US$416 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1793. Carlos IV. Seville. CN. 2 escudos. MBC-/MBC [about very fine to very fine]." This type was struck in Madrid and Seville 1788-1808 for Charles IV. This date is common. Unlike the Latin American mints, which concentrated on producing eight escudos, the Spanish mints turned most of their gold into two escudos.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: 6.77 g, 0.875 fine gold, this specimen 6,70 g.
