Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 72706

This specimen was lot 72706 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1837-Go PJ. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS MS-63. A charmingly Choice example, delivering sharp strike and frosty brilliance that sparkles throughout the flan. Avoiding marking or contact of note, we expect much competition for this pretty minor. The sole finest of the date certified by PCGS." Zacatecas is tied with Guanajuato mint as the largest issuer of half reales. Assayer PJ operated 1834-42. The SCWC does not price this date as rare but only a few dates are common in this grade.
