This specimen was lot 7127 in Ponterio sale 152 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $2,070. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Pfalz-Sulzbach. Carolin, 1733. Karl Philipp (1710-42). NGC AU-58." This type was struck 1733 and 1735; a different type (KM 44) is also known for 1733 with a slenderer bust. The carolin d'or contains the same amount of gold as a French louis d'or of 1726-86; as Pfalz is next door to France, the coincidence should not be surprising. The SCWC has moved this coin from Pfalz-Sulzbach to Kurpfalz. Half carolins and quarter carolins also exist.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 9.7 g, .770 fine gold, .240 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-2029; KM 254 (formerly KM 45).
