England 1643 half crown rev H3029-30622.jpg

This specimen was lot 30622 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $4,406.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles I Halfcrown 1643, Oxford, MS63 NGC. With just an insignificant planchet crack on the obverse between the horse's hind legs and some typical unevenness around the edges, this is a superior example for the type. Most coins of this issue feature uneven weak striking that severely affects the overall eye appeal, but this coin is a standout in that the devices are largely struck-up, with the only weakness apparent being along the legend." This English Civil War issue was struck at several mints and many varieties. The SCWC lists KM 214.1 thru KM 214.19.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.925 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 214.5, S-2954.
