Prussia 1774-A mariengroschen
This specimen was lot 3712 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €100 (about US$139 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. Mariengroschen 1774, A, Berlin. Prägung für die westlichen Landesteile. Sehr schön +. Exemplar der Auktion Berliner Münz-Cabinet 15, Berlin 1982, Nr. 682. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, mariengroschen of 1774, struck for the western provinces. Very fine or better.)"
The Aurich mint, which heretofore had struck for East Friesland, seems to have closed about 1768. This type was struck 1771 and 1774-75 at Berlin for use in East Friesland and is somewhat scarce. This denomination was last struck in 1775. One thaler made 36 mariengroschen.
