Künker sale 353, lot 3714

This specimen was lot 3714 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €55 (about US$77 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 4 Gute Pfennig 1774, A, Berlin. Prägung für die westlichen Landesteile. Fast sehr schön. Exemplar der Slg. Lauterbach, Auktion Frankfurter Münzhandlung 131, Frankfurt/Main 1988, Nr. 255. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, four gute pfennig of 1774, Berlin mint, Cleve mint, struck for the western provinces. About very fine.)"

The "gute" in the denomination indicated that the coin was "good silver", if only a trace, as here. This the last of the denomination. Four pfennig struck in the nineteenth century were pure copper.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.08 g, 0.125 fine silver, this specimen is 0,85 g.

Catalog reference: KM 324, Olding 281; Kluge 274.
