Zurich H3049-31574r.jpg

This specimen was lot 31574 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "Zurich. City gold 1/2 Ducat 1726 MS62 PCGS. The finest example we've encountered of this apparently rare date, this being the only example in the PCGS and NGC population reports with only two other examples appearing in our search of auction records dating back over 15 years. Combined with a full strike on both sides and intense reflectivity in the fields, undoubtedly an important coin for the specialist of the series. From the Redwood Collection, Part II." This type was struck without change 1718-67 yet remains scarce. The earlier type of 1712-16 has the same Friedberg number but has a distinctly different reverse.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.75 g, .979 fine gold, .055 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 139, Fr-487a, HMZ-21162p.
