Ponterio sale 168, lot 50563

This specimen was lot 50563 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $300. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1886-GoRR. NGC MS-64." The Guanajuato mint issued this type 1825-97 and most dates are readily available. The Guanajuato mint issued no eight reales in 1869, 1871 or 1872. Several overdates are noted for the year, including 1886/5, 1886/76 and 1886/75.

Recorded mintage: 4,127,000.

Specification: 27.07 g, .903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
