Künker sale 353, lot 4113

This specimen was lot 4113 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €160 (about US$223 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm IV. 1840-1861. 1/6 Taler 1847, A. Vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Möller 24, Kassel 1999, Nr. 867. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William IV, 1840-61, one sixth thaler of 1847. Extremely fine.)"

The sixth thaler was the only minor denomination to survive the reform of 1821 unmodified in weight or module. This system obtained until German unification in 1871. This type was struck 1843-52.

Recorded mintage: 243,836, a fairly common date.

Specification: 5.35 g, 0.531 fine silver, this specimen 5.33 g.
