Prussia 1860-A 1/6 thaler
This specimen was lot 4124 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €400 (about US$557 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm IV. 1840-1861. 1/6 Taler 1860, A. Prägung nach dem Wiener Münzvertrag von 1857. R Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William IV, 1840-61, one sixth thaler of 1860, struck in accordance with the Vienna Coinage Treaty of 1857. Rare, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1858-60 and is rather scarce. The one-sixth thaler was one of many minor denominations struck alongside the better known thalers and gold coins. It was issued steadily 1809-68, when the unification of 1871 rendered it obsolete.
Recorded mintage: 96,212, rather scarce.
Specification: 5.35 g, 0.531 fine silver, this specimen 5,33 g.
