Prussia 1861-A thaler Dav-780
This specimen was lot 4156 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €220 (about US$306 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Wilhelm I. 1861-1888. Vereinstaler 1861, A. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Erworben im Februar 1968. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, William I, 1861-88, union thaler of 1861, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
Four different thalers were struck in 1861: Dav-775, for Frederick Wiliam IV; Dav-778, for the coronation of William I; Dav-780, the regular thaler of William I (shown here) and Dav-781, the mining thaler of William I. This type was struck 1861-63 in large numbers and is common.
